The Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation  Inspector of Automotive Equipment certification list is being utilized to recruit for this position. The Inspector of Automotive Equipment will inspect and evaluate the condition of departmental vehicles regarding continued cost effective operation. Determine when early survey requests are warranted. Prepare early survey request documents and maintain related vehicle files. Coordinate collection and subrogation activities with other sections and outside agencies. Inspect asset forfeiture or court awarded vehicles to determine value and cost effective operation, make recommendations, and prepare related reports. Inspect and evaluate potential vendor repair facilities for quality of work and their related costs. Review requested repairs to ensure they are appropriate, safe, cost effective, and in accordance with CHP policy. Track vehicle recalls statewide. Travel statewide to audit overall vehicle fleet condition, shop operations, fleet maintenance, fleet repair records, fuel reporting, and fleet management system entries. Prepare audit documents using a computer.

Working Conditions

The Inspector of Automotive Equipment will work both indoors and outdoors. While indoors, the temperature and humidity are reasonably controlled. While outdoors, the employee is exposed to climatic conditions.

Special Requirements

• The position(s) require(s) a valid California Drivers License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your application. Ensure you provide your CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions.
• The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

Must be able to lift 60 pounds in weight, be able to work in varying, and sometimes extreme temperatures, and have strong interpersonal/verbal communication skills; and good attendance and punctuality.
